Four Ways to Bring Your Family to the Table with Top Sirloin

Top sirloin is a delicious, affordable, and most importantly, flexible cut of meat that can be adapted to a wide variety of recipes. Southern Grocery Company's gourmet Top Sirloin Steaks have just the right marbling to create melt-in-your-mouth, crowd-pleasing flavor.

Here are four ideas for putting these delicious steaks to work in your kitchen:

Grilled sirloin: Fire up the grill and throw on serving-sized portions of top sirloin. Before you head outside, season them simply with a little bit of sea salt, cracked pepper, garlic powder, even some lemon pepper seasoning or seasoned salt, whatever your family enjoys the most. Grill to your desired doneness, about 4-5 minutes per side. Be careful not to flip them too often, so you get those great grill marks. Serve your steaks with the traditional baked potato and side salad. Sauteed mushrooms or onions make great toppers for the steak. Alternatively, you can thread chunks of sirloin onto to skewers with peppers, onions, mushrooms, and tomatoes for delicious kabobs on the grill.

Roasted sirloin and veggies: This is a "kitchen sink" kind of recipe where you can throw in almost any vegetables you've got in your refrigerator. It's a great way to use up things that might be on their way out, so to speak. Basically, put a little olive oil in the bottom of a large roasting pan. Throw in whatever vegetables you like. Root vegetables like carrots, rutabagas, turnips, or parsnips work well or you could try zucchini, yellow squash, and tomatoes. Even Brussels sprouts could be good. Make sure to cut the veggies into similarly sized pieces. Roast the vegetables in the oven at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes, until they start to soften. The timing will depend on the kinds of vegetables you choose, so watch them pretty carefully. Clear some space in the roasting pan for your sirloin and roast it for 8-10 minutes, turning over halfway through cooking. Finishing the veggies with the steaks will give you out of this world flavor!

Pan-seared steak and eggs: Everybody loves breakfast for dinner and this is a great way to do it! Heat up your cast iron skillet over medium-high heat with 3 tablespoons of canola oil and 2 tablespoons of butter to add flavor and make sure your steaks don't stick to the pan. Season the steaks like you would for the grill and cook them about 5-6 minutes per side, depending on the how done you like them. Let the steaks rest while you prepare eggs and toast to accompany them.

Baked sirloin fajitas: You can enjoy all the flavors from your favorite Mexican restaurant at home. Cut your top sirloin into bite-sized pieces and season with fajita seasoning or cumin, salt, and pepper. Then, cut up a red bell pepper, a green bell pepper, and a large onion into strips. If you and your family can take the heat, chop a jalapeno in very small pieces. You can also try mushrooms and tomatoes, if you like. Toss the meat and veggies into a roasting pan with some olive oil. Bake at 400 degrees for about 15-20 minutes or until the veggies soften and the meat is done to your liking. Serve on flour tortillas with all the traditional toppings like cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole.
